It's a cliché to state that one should think like a child, but it's clear that kids know something that the world tries to make you unlearn later in life. There's so many strategies people use to try to get that something back, and most of them don't work. It's hard to stay positive when there's a lot of evil in the world. Life is hard, you're tired, and there's disease. The strategy that works for children is to be delighted by the things that delight you. →
John Darnielle (of The Mountain Goats) is still a pretty wise fellow. On that note, please delight in the things that delight you. I have been practicing wise old Kurt Vonnegut’s quote, “If this isn’t nice, then I don’t know what is”. Treasure the simple times!
Album Release Show. Rickshaw Stop. SF, CA. 10.10.2012
The proof is in the pudding.
Counting down the days!
Still so good. Jason Molina (Songs:Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co., etc.) is one of my favorite songwriters and vocalists.
“Hi there! My name’s Fred, I’m 17 years old, and I’m from Australia. I play guitar, drums, and also sing. Music is one of my greatest passions, followed by skateboarding and photography. I’ve been playing guitar for nearly 7 years, and drums for 3 years.
Favourite Bands/Artists:
Nirvana, Parkway Drive, Red Hot Chili Peppers, La Dispute, KoJi, The Beatles, The Amity Affliction, Odd Future, Ramones, Radiohead, Tigers Jaw, Jeff Buckley, il gato, Pavement, The Pixies, Cage the Elephant and Bon Iver.”
No, no, no, it's not about being in control or having power. It's about realizing that I have a choice in what I feel. Like today, I was feeling really, like, What's going on? And then I realized it's the moon. There's a full moon tonight. And so in my heart I was like, "No, it's because there's something wrong!" And then I was like, No, I'm gonna choose to think, "It's the full moon, dummy." →
Wise words and nice interview with Chan Marshall (Cat Power)
“i hope you don’t mind, i had your cat tattooed on my arm…and if you do mind…well, i suppose i could have a big black X put on top of it but that would make me very sad. very sad indeed.
one day i went to a restaurant and your two cds were sitting on the table. i love cats and so i took them. now i love il gato. weird and fortuitous. thanks for the music.
”
Erato : “Call Your Girlfriend” (Robyn cover)
Just found out about this song in an interview with Passion Pit.
3 voices + 6 hands + 3 cheese graters = Sold!
Adios Amigo : “Chicken”
While we eagerly await releasing some new IL GATO songs, we have this most excellent jam by drummer, Johnny Major’s, solo project. The whole EP is great. Find out more here.
Grimes : Oblivion
Alright, fine, this song’s awesome! Has the same dark synth-pop Austra is so good at.
Sigur Ros are still making beautiful music. Also, they still like videos with naked people.
“When I think of all the hours and hours of my life I have spent watching television, it makes me realize, Man, I am really rich with television.”
“Deep Thoughts” by Jack Handey.
For some reason as I am recording an album it is really helpful for me (or at least really easy) to watch a lot of a mindless television show(s). For “All these Slippery Things” I checked-out from the library and watched the entirety of ‘Gilmore Girls’ (the pop-culturally most intelligent show ever on TV - The Shins and Yo La Tengo played on that soap opera like show for christ-sakes, they might have even referenced Daniel Johnston) and then watched not one, but both “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” (which honestly inspired some of our last press photos).
This time I watched (or re-watched) 'Felicity’ and 'Life’. I would like to want to feel shame but I truly believe 'shame’ is one of our least productive emotions and, after all, I am really rich in television!
And, no joke, 'Party of Five’ changed my life, but that is another story for another time.
